Whales and Fish
The student reads the text fluently without pausing
unnecessarily and monitors his own reading well. The student’s understanding of
phonics seems to be on grade level as he uses the letters to sound out the
words correctly. He reads most words accurately though he seems to be lacking
an understanding of tenses in grammar. The student reads the word “live” as “lived”
more than once showing that he needs to be taught tenses in grammar well. Additionally,
the student reads “whale” as “whales”, indicating that he should be taught what
singular and plural words in grammar are.
When the student retells the text, he demonstrates a clear
understanding of what he read. The student repeats the basic overview of the subject
of the reading and clearly repeats differences and similarities between whales
and fish.
I think that the student’s fluency and comprehension are
both great. However, his understanding of language and grammar can use
improvement.
Nice analysis. Does the fact that he reads live as lived have to do with grammar, or reading?
ReplyDeleteI think it's a grammar issue because the he read the other words fluently so it doesn't seem like he has a problem with reading and sounding out words.
